Before you take any medicine, make sure you know what the medicine is, the name of it, and why you are taking it. Mistakes happen all the time in the medical field, so it is up to you to make sure you are getting the correct medicine.

Also, ask how long you should take the medicine and in what doses. Some medicine needs to be taken frequently while others are only once a day or even once a week. Make sure you are very clear on the dosage schedule for the medicine.

Find out if there are any foods or activities you need to avoid while taking a particular medicine. Some drugs will warn you to stay away from the sun or not drive while others will suggest you avoid certain foods and most will warn against drinking any alcoholic beverages. You will also want to know if any over the counter drugs like Tylenol can be taken when you are taking a particular medicine as well. Be sure you are clear on these recommendations before you take any medicine.

You should always ask your doctor if there are any other side effects of the medicine and what they might be. Also, some side effects of medicine are very serious so if you are taking a medicine that has a high risk factor you will want to be well informed and know what to do in case of an emergency.

Medicine is great because it helps people fight illnesses, feel better, and live with aches and pains. However, one should always be fully educated about a particular medicine before beginning a regimen.

Health Insurance, Dental Insurance vs Discount Plans

Health insurance is what everyone is familiar with, but most people don’t really know how it works. You and your employer pay the insurance company a regular monthly premium, and you are responsible for a small co-pay when you go see the doctor or get a prescription. Over time, the money you pay the insurance company adds up to much more than the average person will ever use in healthcare. If something tragic happens, you will thank your lucky stars that you have insurance, but even major surgery will not offset a lifetime of paying into the system. Insurance companies only pay the doctor a small percentage of what they bill and the result is multi-million dollar insurance companies.

Dental insurance works almost exactly the same way that health insurance does but dental insurance companies are usually much smaller. Like healthcare, you will pay into the system much more than you will ever use for the comfort of having it when you need it. Most employers have stopped offering dental to their employees because it’s not as important as health, but still expensive. You can also get a dental plan directly from some dentists that work in a dental chain, but they don’t usually cover the big expenses like braces. This leaves most people stuck with nothing and they just pay full price when they need to go to the dentist.

Discount plans like Ameriplan are the alternative to regular health and dental insurance. With these programs, you pay a very small monthly fee and in return the health and dental providers give you a large discount on their services. The down side to these plans is that 80% off a $100,000 bill is still a $20,000 bill. You pay the discounted price that insurance companies enjoy, but this can still leave you stuck if something really bad happens. Dental is better than health with these programs because no one is going to lose their house over a dental bill. These plans are good for people that have no health or dental at all because something is better than nothing, and the cost is hundreds of dollars less per month.

Each person’s situation is different and the plan that’s best for them depends on their needs. If you are in good health and don’t have any coverage, a discount plan is going to be your best option. This will give you the option to save money for an emergency while enjoying a good discount on your everyday health needs like regular checkups. Another great option for most people is a discount plan combined with catastrophic health insurance. Catastrophic health insurance covers you in case of a big problem, but has a large deductible so it won’t help with everyday healthcare. Together you can have good coverage for substantially less than regular health insurance premiums. Health and dental care have a huge impact on your life, and it’s in your best interest to learn as much as you can about them so you can get the perfect plan for you.

What Is Lutein
Lutein is a compound found naturally in nature in many dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach. It is also abundant in egg yolks. Lutein itself is a fat soluble and is a member of the carotenoid family and it is responsible for the pigmentation of color in many of our fruits.

Lutein is also present within the retina of our eyes and helps to protect them by filtering out the dangerous blue light from the rays of the sun; it also prevents free radicals killing off those cells.

Many various studies have been undertaken on this nutrient and results have shown that introducing an intake of lutein into the daily diet has in many cases improved vision.

It has definitely answered the question will lutein improve vision. But what is even more interesting is that the participants of the study that were already taking various other vitamins and minerals along with lutein showed an even greater improvement on vision and protection.

Other important eye protection nutrients are zeaxanthin which is present in the second part of the retina the macular and also bilberry extract.

How Does It Work
Within our eyes we have the retina, and within the retina is the macular area and together they are responsible for our central vision. Basically if our cells in these areas get destroyed then it would inhibit us from doing many things we now take for granted. Ie: driving, reading, drawing, writing. Those are just a few.

A thick layer of lutein protects our vision while we are young, just as a thick layer of zeaxanthin protects the macular, but as we age this layer thins and I am afraid that we cannot reproduce it naturally therefore we have to rely on diet and supplements. The more dark green leafy vegetables we eat in our diet the more lutein remains.

However, the more junk food we intake the thinner and thinner our lutein becomes until we really do leave our precious eyesight in danger.

Pretty simple isn’t it. Either we supplement our own lutein or we put ourselves at risk.

Now if you don’t want to eat just plates of green vegetables everyday, then choose a supplement, it’s far easier and you also know that you are getting the right amount too.

One last important thing to remember is get a multi vitamin nutritional supplement because as already mentioned, the benefits are much higher.
